Aviemore Pottery

I picked up this vase a month or so ago at a thrift for next to nothing.  It's a brand I hadn't heard of before - Aviemore.  There isn't much information about it online, other than it is made in Scotland and isn't highly sought after.  I'm not sure why though, because I love this little pot.  It's about 5 1/2" tall and wide, has a really nice shape and the glaze is unique.  A nice addition to my pottery collection!

Trio of Bassett Tables

I'm sadly behind on posting - nothing new!  This is one of my favorite garage sale finds from the summer.  I hit a very small neighborhood sale in my hometown that did not look very promising.  And mostly it wasn't.  I hadn't found anything and the last house I drove by looked to have nothing up my alley either.  I was very tempted to keep on driving but it was in a little culdesac and I felt bad not stopping.  The prices were great but I saw nothing for me - until I spotted this set of three tables that is!  They were buried under stuff and weren't marked so I wasn't even sure they were for sale.  I inquired and the price for the set of three - $25.  SOLD!  They are by Bassett and in very good condition.

Two of the pieces ended up in the basement and one in the living room.  I replaced my American of Martinsville night stand with the smaller of the tables.  I liked that piece but this is a much better fit.
I rarely post pictures from the basement since the lighting is soooo bad.  You have your choice of really washed out flash photos or pictures with an unhealthy yellow glow.  I usually pick the glow version.  I've been needing a coffee table down there, and while I really want a round one, this one is working out great.  That weirdness on top of the coffee table is a seriously awesome ceramic Christmas tree.  I'll have to photograph it better and give it its own post (though don't hold your breath on that one.)
I love this table with the drawer.  It replaced this Lane table.  I liked the Lane table and thought the Bassett would be too big, but it's a nice fit.  And it gives me a big spot to put all the glass vases that I seem to be accumulating!

Yes, it's a little late for a Halloween post.  The jack-o-lanterns turned out pretty fun this year.  I love, love, love lighted pumpkins!  It's a shame they only get lit once a year.

Living & Dining Rooms

I just realized that most of the photos of my home are pretty out of date - especially the living/dining rooms.  Since the space was actually clean today I took some shots.  The space is long and narrow and doesn't really allow for a lot of choices on furniture placement.  I've tried to play around with it but this is really the only setup that works very well.  Possibly if I had fewer than 12 chairs in there it might be easier, but what fun would that be?

Red Metal Toy Telephone

A recent find that I love.  I found this at a thrift shop for basically nothing.  At first I only found the base - the handset was missing.  I had to search and search but finally located the handset - hurray!  Made my day.

Mid Century Upholstered Chair

There haven't been many estate sales that have peaked my interest lately and this week wasn't any exception.  Until I happened to see an ad in the local newspaper (the last place I usually look) on Friday night for a sale that had started that morning which had some MCM furniture.  And it was right in my own little town!  I have no idea how I missed it on the estate sale list.  I was bummed, assuming everything had sold on day one.  But I drug myself out of bed Sat morning to go see if anything was left for half price day.  Even for that I was late - showing up about 10 minutes after the doors opened.  And all of the MCM stuff was still there!  Sweet!  There wasn't a lot - a coffee table, a couple of end tables, a great lamp, and this amazing chair.  I passed on the tables (they were still $75 each, I don't need them, and I couldn't make money off of them at that price.)  The lamp I snagged for $12.50 (forgot to photograph that.)  But the best find was the chair, purchased for $47.50.

Now in reality I don't need another chair.  I don't - just ask my husband.  But I don't care - I'm keeping this one anyway because I love it!  The original fabric is awesome - very textural - and is in perfect condition.  And it is super comfy to boot.  I'd love to keep it in the spot I have it photographed but it's actually too big there when viewed in the room as a whole.  Too bad!  So for now it is relegated to the basement.  I'll need to do some hocus-pocus down there so that I don't have to get rid of any of my other favorite chairs.  I'm thinking some kid stuff will have to leave instead!
Linking up this week with Thrift Share Monday.

Before & After - Gerd Lange Swing Chair

Way back in February I scored this Gerd Lange Swing chair for FREE!  This thing grew on me super fast - I love it!  I knew right away I wanted to replace the fabric.  The old vinyl was torn so it definitely had to go.
It took me forever to choose on a fabric but I finally decided to go with something green.  I searched a long time for just the right shade in just the right texture but I finally found a green fabric from Modern Fabrics that fit the bill.  That decision only took me several months and in the meantime the brown had really grown on me.  But I went with the green anyway - I really want to keep the room from being too matchy and a pop of green felt like the way to go.

After I upholstered the piece I really wasn't sure how I liked it - it was such a big change!  I love the fabric and love it on the chair but it was a little Kermit the Frog.  But now, after living with the chair for a couple of months I am in love again.  I'm surer happy with my choice and if I change my mind at some point it is a very easy chair to recover.  And here are pictures of the chair in my family room:

The next items up for a change are the curtains and the Flor tiles.  I have no idea what I want for either!
