New and Improved Target Bag Ornaments

Thanks to Sarah directing me to this great fused bag tutorial, I have updated my method for making ornaments and they are so much better! I can make a lot more intricate pieces this way and cut them out before sewing instead of trying to sew my design directly to the plastic. Heidi had asked if it is difficult to sew through plastic and it isn't. It is so so easy! Much easier than fabric in my opinion.

I made a sheet of plastic using the fused bag method and I cut my basic design from that. One layer of the fused bags really isn't thick enough so I layer a bunch of non-fused bags in between two fused layers. This gives me a flat and sturdy ornament. Of course I'm spending way too much time on them now but I'm having so much fun with it! The thing I hate most about sewing is worrying about messing up my fabric. I don't have that problem here! Plus I'm usually way too much of a perfectionist about things but with these ornaments I feel free to be messy and imperfect.

The wreath I made is by far the most time consuming piece I've done. Most of them just take a few minute to throw together but that one took a lot longer. It had so many individual pieces. I love how it came out but I doubt I'll be duplicating it too many times. The train is my favorite! Very quick and easy on that one. I've made a couple already. Another favorite is the Warning Star. I think it's pretty funny that I'm child proofing my tree by covering it in plastic bags. I feel like such a rebel.
